How green are you?

New Worthing gift store IGreen specializes in eco-friendly and biodegrable products in a bid to encourage us to make more sustainable choices. A unique gift shop selling only eco-friendly and biodegradable bags, rugs and home goods has opened in the Guildbourne Centre in Worthing.

P_20160212_120610Husband and wife Prasanna and Anu Saykhedkar opened IGreen two months ago and source their products from Asia, the USA and the UK. They describe their mission as “capturing the minds and hearts of people to take action and adapt more sustainable choices, to actively help the environment, to become an inspiration to the people around, and to have the power to make our planet a greener and better place to live in”.

Their vision is to provide trusted and genuine sustainable lifestyle solutions for their customers’ everyday needs and they operate under the motto: our greener future is in our hands.

“All of our items tell a story,” says Anu. “Each item is made from natural, sustainable, biodegradable or recycled materials, and many have been handcrafted too. This means the people making these items have put lots of skill into making them and will receive a fair wage. Your item will also be unique, which means that you are actually working towards the artisans preserving their art and earning their livelihood.”

Among the range at IGreen are jute and cotton bags, up-cycled cotton and leather bags, cotton and leather chindi rugs, eco-friendly handmade cards made from recycled paper, eco-stationery such as handcrafted leather diaries with recycled handmade paper, jute stationery, pencils and pens made in the bark of the trees, recycled glasses, recycled record clocks, handcrafted journals, folders, office bags and diaries.

There is also jewellery made from jute, terracotta clay, wood and glass. IGreen’s most recent addition is Pachanka chocolatemaking kits, which contain Madagascan natural ingredients.

“If you care about the environment and the ecology, you should start using eco-friendly products as much as you can,” says Anu. “By eco-friendly products, we mean the products and services that do not have any negative environmental effects, in their production, use or disposal stages. By using more eco-friendly products and making minor changes in our lifestyle, we can reduce our carbon footprints and make this world a more ecologically safer place. The future of our sustainability and wellbeing of future generations depends upon on how we take actions today.”

She adds, “IGreen is here to ensure that we live in a sustainable way and minimize our carbon footprints. Individual actions are the most powerful force to bring positive environmental changes. Our individual sustainable choices could be a drop in the ocean, but combined efforts have the power of enormous waves that can bring positive change.”

IGreen is at 16 Guildbourne Centre, Worthing BN11 1LZ.
